FarmVille Updated Market Guide

Posted in Farmville Guide on 20.11.10 by Merlyn

The Market has been completely updated! We’ve integrated a lot more functionality to the FarmVille Market, added some new features, and streamlined the user interface to give you a much more enjoyable shopping experience.

Note: Currently only some of you will see the new Market while we make sure everything is working properly. Don’t worry, soon enough you will all get access to it!

Black Rose seeds: Right now the giftable Black Rose seeds are not showing up in the updated Market. You haven’t lost them, they’re just not displaying—we’ll get that fixed soon.

Navigating the Updated Market

You can access the Market by simply clicking on the Market button at the bottom right of the FarmVille screen as always. The Market is now divided into seven categories:

  • Specials
  • Seeds & Trees
  • Animals
  • Buildings
  • Decorations
  • Farm Aides
  • Clothes

farmville-updated-market-guide-1

The first time you see the Market you’ll be on the Specials tab by default, though afterwards you’ll be first shown whichever tab you were on the last time you used the Market. The Specials tab is arranged a little differently than the others; you are shown three special items we’d like you to know about, like the Mystery Game, specific Limited Edition theme sets, or other new features. If they are sets of items you can click on the “View” button to look through those selections; other features like the Mystery Game will have a “Play Now!” button that’ll bring you directly to it.

All purchasable items (including Limited Edition theme and other timed items) are split up into the other six categories. You can easily navigate between these categories just by clicking on them. Each category is also split into a number of sub-categories, depending on the category. By default you’ll always be on the “All” subcategory, which displays everything in that category.

farmville-updated-market-guide-2

Each Market display page shows up to six items; if there are more than six, you’ll see arrows on the right- or left-hand side of the window that you can click on to move between the pages of items. Each item entry has all the information you’re used to seeing in the old Market, including Buy and Sell prices, harvest times, XP gain, how much time left to purchase that item (if it’s on a timer), the Limited Edition theme it’s a part of (if applicable) and an icon representing the item. If the icon has a “?” symbol on the upper left, it’s usually a special item (like a buildable structure) and you can move your mouse over the “?” to see the longer description. An item that cannot be purchased will show the “Locked” image in place of the “Buy” button; moving your mouse over this will tell you why you can’t buy it. The “Send” button will also appear for certain items that you can buy and immediately send to a neighbor.

You’ll also see a “Preview” button under the icon for many of the items.

Clicking this will pop up a new window and show the item on a farm field next to a typical avatar, empty farm plot and a hay bale (for size purposes). This way you can see exactly what it’d look like on your farm.

For Clothes we use the “Try On” button, which will bring you to the Character Customization window.

farmville-updated-market-guide-4

To the right of the line of sub-category boxes you’ll see the “Sort By” pull-down menu. Here you can select how you want to sort and display the items in that sub-category. For instance, if I click on “Seeds & Trees” and then “Sort By”, I’ll see that I can display all of the seeds and trees in ten different ways such as Lowest Price, Longest Harvest Time, etc. Here we’ve sorted everything by Shortest Harvest Time:

farmville-updated-market-guide-5

Not all categories will have all of these sorting options, however. The sort method will stay the same as long as you stay in the sub-category, so if you select to sort by “Mastery Level” for “All” on “Seeds & Trees”, this type of sorting will stay as you move through “Fruits”, “Grains”, etc. until you change the way the information is sorted or you change categories.

farmville-updated-market-guide-6

The last new feature you’ll see with the new Market is the “Best Sellers” strip at the very bottom. Here you can see some of the top selling items in FarmVille at that moment. Moving your mouse cursor over each item will show all the standard information about that item mentioned above, including the “Preview” and “Buy” buttons.

Farmville Thanksgiving Basket Guide

Posted in Farmville Guide on 17.11.10 by Merlyn

It’s the season to give thanks in FarmVille and what better way of doing that than distributing some tasty Dishes to your neighbors and collecting enough to redeem some exclusive prizes along the way? Place your Thanksgiving Basket today and start the feast right away!

Thanksgiving Basket Guide 1

You’ll get your Thanksgiving Basket for free the first time you play FarmVille after the update, and you will immediately be entered into Placement Mode. You can place the Thanksgiving Basket on your farm now, or you can choose to place it in your Gift Box for use later. You’ll need to be level 5 or higher in order to place and use the Thanksgiving Basket.

Dishing Out the Goods

Once the Thanksgiving Basket is on the farm you can click on it, then select “Look Inside” and you’ll see this window:
Thanksgiving Basket Guide 2

The Thanksgiving Basket works like many of the other “basket”-type events in FarmVille. You can gather various Dishes and put them into the basket and then redeem these Dishes for one of six exclusive prizes like the “Thank Ewe” and “Harvest Fountain”.

You can acquire Dishes by:

  • Requesting a Dish from your neighbors directly (by clicking on the “Ask for Dishes” button).
  • Receive a Dish from a neighbor who uses the Free Gifts page.
  • Purchase 5 Dishes at a time by clicking on the “Buy Dishes” button (for 5 Farm Cash).
  • Opening a Special Delivery Box.
  • Harvesting your Turkey Roost.

As you gather the Dishes in your Gift Box, just click on the “Use” button and they’ll go into your Thanksgiving Basket. The corn meter will fill up on the left side of the basket window as you add in more Dishes. You can click on the “Comparison” button to compare how many Dishes you’ve accumulated with your neighbors.

The five Dishes that are available (and can be gifted) are:

Thanksgiving Basket Guide 3

Each counts as a Dish and it doesn’t matter which you Redeem for prizes. To get a prize, simply click on the “Redeem” button next to the prize you want—if you have enough Dishes (the available number of Dishes is at the top of the window) you’ll be asked to confirm the purchase, and if you hit “Accept” the prize will be stored in your Gift Box:

Thanksgiving Basket Guide 4

The look of the Thanksgiving Basket on the farm and your event “title” also changes depending on how many Dishes you’ve accumulated:

Thanksgiving Basket Guide 5

If you sell the Thanksgiving Basket, you can purchase a new one for 5,000 coins in the Market. After December 1, 2010 you will no longer be able to gift additional Dishes, ask for additional Dishes, or purchase Dishes with Farm Cash from the Market. The Thanksgiving Basket will also be removed from the Market and Dishes will no longer be available with the Special Delivery Box.

Farmville Water Shortage

Posted in Farmville Guide on 13.11.10 by Merlyn

I have so many seedlings that I am anxious to grow. I find myself constantly refreshing the feed, grabbing a can or two, and then heading over to the farm to see if I have a 9/10 tree that is ready to enter Adulthood. I then wait in anticipation to see if it’s going to be a nice tree, like the Chanee Durian Tree, which will find a spot on my farm eventually, or a Autumn Gingko Tree that will be deleted the second my mastery is obtained.

I want to hit up all of my neighbors for water. But at the same time, I need trees! Red Maple Trees, Tamarind Trees, Mango Trees — I need them all! Then there are the trees in the Mystery Gifts. That is another dilemma of mine: Ask for the giftable trees, or for mystery gifts and run the risk of not getting a tree (but having the opportunity to get a BETTER tree if I do get one!)?

I’m sure everyone in the school library these past few days was staring at me, as I frantically hit the F5 button, waiting for a can of water or a tree or a seedling, wondering I’ve gone mad or if I just have a severe mental problem. Good thing today is Saturday, and I can sit here doing this with little shame.

Turkey Roost

Posted in Farmville Guide on 10.11.10 by Merlyn

Please note: This feature is currently only available to a randomly selected group of users. Farmville will be slowly releasing this feature to all users to ensure the health and stability of the application.

It’s Turkey time in FarmVille! We’ve introduced a whole new limited edition building to house your Turkeys: the Turkey Roost! Now you can store (after expansion) up to 40 turkeys in one building, share new Baby Turkeys with your neighbors, and collect Fruit Cake for use in the near future.

Turkey Roost 1

Building your Roost

You’ll get the frame for the Turkey Roost for free the first time you play FarmVille after the update, and you will immediately be entered into Placement Mode. You can place the Turkey Roost frame on your farm now, or you can choose to place it in your Gift Box for use later. You’ll need to be level 5 in order to place and use the Turkey Roost.

The Turkey Roost is a constructable building, so you’ll need a grand total of 30 parts (10 bricks, 10 nails and 10 wooden boards) to finish it:
Turkey Roost 2

Like other constructable buildings, you can acquire these parts by:

  • Asking your neighbors for these parts by posting a help request to your feed (click on the “Ask For More” button for each type of part).
  • Give parts to your neighbors via the Free Gifts page or the “Send Gifts” button.
  • Acquire individual parts by spending Farm Cash (click on the “Buy” button for that particular part). Each part is 1 Farm Cash.
  • Acquire all needed parts for the building by spending Farm Cash (click on the “Complete Now” button to purchase parts for the rest of the building). The Cost is X Farm Cash, where X is the amount of parts left needed to finish the building.
  • Parts awarded through Special Delivery Boxes.
  • Using individual parts available in your Gift Box.

The look of the Turkey Roost changes as you build it:

Turkey Roost 3

You can only have one Turkey roost on your farm at any one time. If you happen to sell your Turkey Roost, you can buy a new frame in the Market under the Buildings tab before the end of the promotion (at the end of the month). The cost is 5,000 coins.

Using Your Roost

Turkey Roosts basically need turkeys in order to work—they don’t do much sitting empty by themselves. Click on your completed Roost—you’ll see an option to “Ask For Turkeys”, which will make a post to your feed asking your neighbors for turkeys, and to “Look Inside”. Looking inside right now will show you this:

Turkey Roost 4

As you put various turkeys into your Roost, they’ll show up inside. You can acquire turkeys by:

  • Posting in your feed asking for turkeys (see above)
  • Buying turkeys in the market (like the Wild Turkey)
  • Grabbing a Baby Turkey from a neighbor’s Turkey Roost feed (see below)
  • Through in-game events (like the Lonely Turkey, or as a flash gift, or maybe even the Animal Feed Trough).

You can put turkeys in the Turkey Roost simply by placing them directly in your Roost if you buy them or are placing through the Gift Box or Storage Cellar. If the turkeys are already on your farm you can just use Move and click on the Turkey Roost to move them in.

The Turkey Roost is harvestable once every 24 hours. When it’s at 100% ready (move the mouse cursor over the Roost to check on it), click on the Turkey Roost to harvest. You will get:

  • The total amount of coins you can get for harvesting all of the turkeys in the Roost at once.
  • The possibility of getting some Fruit Cake.
  • The possibility of being able to give your FarmVille neighbors a Baby Turkey.

The Fruit Cake is a special item that you will need in the near future (so be on the lookout). Note that you do not get a Baby Turkey yourself, but just the possibility of giving one to your neighbors by posting a notice to your feed. The higher the number of turkeys in your Roost, the better the chance of getting the Fruit Cake/Baby Turkey rewards.

Also note that Baby Turkeys do not grow up while in the Turkey Roost.

Expanding Your Roost

A standard Turkey Roost can hold up to twenty (20) turkeys and may look like this when you click “Look Inside”:
Turkey Roost 5

However you may expand your Roost if you wish by clicking on “Expand Roost”. You can expand your Roost twice, and each expansion will allow you to hold ten (10) more turkeys. The first expansion will cost a total of forty-five (45) building parts, while the second expansion will cost sixty (60) building parts. You can acquire, purchase, and ask for more building parts in the exact same way when you were building the Turkey Roost.

End of Event Notes

After the end of this limited edition event (December 1, 2010) you will not be able to purchase a new Turkey Roost frame in the Market, nor will you be able to acquire Fruit Cakes from harvesting your Turkey Roost. You’ll still be able to complete a Turkey Roost still in construction, expand it, receive Baby Turkeys from neighbors, and ask for turkeys in your feed.

How to Complete Farmville Orchards?

Posted in Farmville Cheats on 05.11.10 by Merlyn

It works like this:

1) Buy an orchard for 1,000 coins
2) Build the orchard
3) Repeat steps 1 & 2

Basically all the farmcash one is is buying the materials so you get a fully completed orchard. (Just like the complete for farmcash buttons on other buildables, but simpler)

How to Deal With Excessive Gifts

Posted in Farmville Cheats on 03.11.10 by Merlyn

I’m wondering if some farmville neighbors are doing the same thing I’m doing: I don’t need them, but apparently you do, so here’s a return gift. We’re probably all “being nice” to each other and secretly groaning when we receive yet another black rose seed gift.

There are some things I do ignore. I assume that if a neighbor is sending me some lame gift from the gifts page, they’re sending them to more than one person. I ignore common animals, and building supplies – the cycle has to stop somewhere.

I have one neighbor who has been sending me whitewash fences for weeks. Every. Single. Day. Sometimes more than once a day. I accept the fence, send them one back, then post the one in my giftbox to the feed, and lock it to that person. I’ve seen their farm, and they are using the fences, but good grief! they’re only 300 coins each in the market. Now that’s taking cheapskate to a whole new level. I’d say something to them, but now it’s become a sort of fascination. I’m wondering how long they’ll keep this up.

Back to the OP: A simple “I have enough of XYZ” or even add in what you’d prefer to have wouldn’t be rude. Otherwise, just ignore the gift. Chances are, the sender isn’t going to notice that you ignored it. As long as you send them gifts on a semi-regular basis, I’m sure they’ll be happy neighbors. I received 11 penguins today, and can’t even remember the name of one person who sent them to me.
